3T MRI is twice as strong as any other MRI unit

We have the finest MRI equipment in Delaware.  We perform all basic MRI services such as MRI of the Brain, Soft Tissue Neck, Cspine, Tspine, Lspine, Sacrum and Coccyx, Abdomen, Breast, Chest, Cardiac, Knee, Shoulder, Ankle, Wrist, Foot, Toes, Fingers, Pelvis and Prostate.  We can do specialized high resolution studies of the rectum, prostate and cervix without an endorectal coil.   Just a week ago we picked up a small metastasis to bone from prostate cancer which was not detected by bone scan or CT.   This is because we have twice the signal to noise (SNR) of most other scanners and the improvement lets us scan the high resolution images without the special invasive coil.  Our coccyx images are done in the lumbar coil and are incredible.  We have a several cases of coccydynia which shows enhancement and inflammation on a contrast enhanced fat sat image.  Usually on MRI we see nothing in such cases.  Because of the detail and sensitivity to enhancement we finally can actually see positive findings in these patients.  We have have a enhancing nuchal ligament tendinitis case and subtle shoulder tendinitis picked up by indirect arthrography.  The shoulder arthrograms are astounding.  We can see the cartilage surfaces in the shoulder because of our higher resolution and thinner sections.  The key to seeing more at 3T is using contrast and fat sat and contiguous 2mm thick sections.  This combination is very hard to do at 1.5T and easy to do at 3T.

For our abdomen studies we ALWAYS do a diffusion weighted image.  This advanced technology works in the brain and also in the liver to find lesions which would otherwise be invisible.  At a conference in Philadelphia I learned that at Yale and Wake Forest University they also do DWI images on all their liver MRI patients.  We have been doing this for two and half years.  No one else in Delaware does this.  You have no idea what you are missing until you scan with the latest software and MRI knowledge.  Obviously some of the other providers feel they can give you less service and you will not care.  I hope that the intelligent patient looks on the internet and sees what is available.  ALL MRI scanners are not equal.  Our scanners are the same as the ones installed at University of Pennsylvania,  Yale and Johns Hopkins.   Yale has announced they are buying three 3T Verio scanners.  We also just purchased a 18 channel 3T OPEN BORE Verio for Delaware.  We are expanding to provide 3T MRI coverage for Delaware.

Breast MRI is superior at 3T field strengths.  www.3tbreastmri.com  A recent study said MRI of the breast was 100% sensitive for cancer.  It was published in April 2009.  We are ahead of the curve and have done only 3T MRI of the breast preferentially since 2007.   We are here to bring you the best technology.  We also have breast coils on all of our MRUI magnets. This lets us provide the proper exams for all patients.  We don't pick and choosse and tell you where you have to go. Other providers in this area only get one coil for one magnet and try to tell you you have to go to one place or another for your scan.

MR angiography is particularly improved at 3T. The highest quality MR angiography is possible at 3T.  We scan with double the resolution of other scanners and can make an equivocal case on other scanners either positive or negative.  We can be definitive.

MR cholangiography is also improved at 3T.  We can see smaller branches and strictures using the power of 3T.  Diffusion weighted imaging is also improved at 3T and makes pacnreatic cancers stand out.  3T diffusion weighted imaging is also good for imaging of prostate cancer.  Rectal cancer imaging is also improved at 3T.

Fetal MRI is usually done at 1.5T, but 3T offers us the capability of scanning faster or with higher resolution.  It is possible this may aid us in the future in fetal MRI.

Functional MRI studies can be done at 3T and are much more statistically sound than the same studies done at 1.5T.  The extra signal to noise helps us especially for functional MRI.

Please feel free to call us with any questions about your MRI study.

SNR or signal to noise ratio is the yardstick by which one can compare images from one machine to another.  3T MRI has at least twice the signal to noise of lower field scanners.  This means to make an image of the same signal to noise you have to scan four times as long.
